Backus Museum Exhibit

Florida landscape painter Peter Pettegrew was recently invited to exhibit his plein air inspired paintings at the Backus Museum, located in Ft. Pierce, Florida. A.E. Backus was one of Florida’s primere painters who’s work later inspired a group of black artists which later became known as the Florida Highwaymen.

    Hi,
I knew a Peter Pettigrew back in the 80′s. I had a good friend, George, who owned a framing gallery in Carrolwood, (Tampa, Fla). The Peter I knew would frequent Georges shop. I told him at that time, he would become a great artist, and I should buy some of his paintings then, while I could still afford them. LOL My husband played for the Buc’s at that time. I ‘m wondering if you are the same Peter.
    Please let me know,
    Cindy Moritz

    Hi Cindy,
Thanks for the note. Sorry it took me a while to locate it. Yes, I’m the same guy that was back in Tampa many years back. Still talk to George once in a while, but now in Orlando. Been painting all this time! Maybe I’ll see you at a showing at some point. Check out the site from time to time, as I’m trying to keep it updated now.
    All the best,
    Peter
